Study and Consensus
The 2013 Annual Meeting approved a study looking at city owned parks and recreation facilities.
The proposed City budget includes some items that will have an impact on the parks. The City Council Budget Study Sessions begin on Thursday, October 10, 2013 and continue on Tuesday, October 15th, Thursday, October 17th, Tuesday, October 22nd, and Thursday, October 24th. Not all of the dates may be required to get through the budget process, so members should definitely plan to attend on October 10th, 15th, and 17th. All of the meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. and may end at 9:00 p.m. They are held in the Council Chambers, Fourth Floor of the Municipal Building, 18 North Jackson Street.
At this time, it is unknown as to exactly when discussion will occur on the Leisure Services Department Budget and the Capital Improvements program which also may affect the parks.
We are encouraging all League members to attend these study sessions to learn about the budget and the concerns of the Council members.
A public hearing on the budget will occur at the City Council meeting on November 11. An additional public hearing and adoption of the budget is scheduled for November 25.
